My name is Curt Eastin . . . I practice a different kind of dentistry. With doctorates in both dentistry and naturopathic medicine, I view the health of your mouth as significant part of your overall health.

To be honest, the first few years out of dental school I practiced like every other dentist in town . . . I just didn’t get it. I didn’t realize that the way I did dentistry could compromise the health of my patients. My study of natural medicine eventually opened my eyes to the connection between dental health and total body health.

This discovery prompted  a journey that would change my life and my practice . . . a journey that encouraged me to suspend dental practice for 5 years and obtain a doctorate in naturopathic medicine.

Since graduating from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in 1998, and completing a natural medicine residency in 1999, I have studied with some of the most progressive and open minds in medicine and dentistry. With training and experience in both conventional and alternative science, I have developed a deep appreciation for all forms of the truth . . . regardless of the source. When your mind is open, it’s amazing what you can see.

I’m often asked how being a naturopathic physician influences my practice of dentistry . . . my answer is that it changed everything.  At its core, naturopathic medicine teaches “first do no harm” and “respect the healing power of nature”. In my opinion, many of the procedures and materials of traditional dentistry violate these principles.

Applying the philosophy of naturopathic medicine to the practice of dentistry has transformed my practice.  I operate under the idea that the best dentistry is no dentistry . . . it is far better to prevent and heal than it is to treat.  Of course there are many times when treatment is required. When providing dental treatment, my core principles are:

  1. Use methods that are conservative and minimally invasive
  2. Use materials that are non-toxic
  3. Use safeguards to protect against exposure to known toxins like mercury
  4. Use treatments that stimulate the body's natural ability to heal
